If you are looking for a burger place in Hwajeong then your options are pretty slim. There are the standard fast food options like McDonalds, Burger King and Lotteria but that’s about it that I have found so far. If you know of any other interesting places please let me know.
However there is one more fast food joint that may be worth a look if you are tired of the ones mentioned above. Burger & Friez is apparently a chain but I’ve never seen it nor heard of it before I discovered this branch so this is my first and only experience with it.
It’s just a small counter with about half-a-dozen tables tucked away on the 2nd Basement floor of the Save Zone department store right next to Hwajeong Station (Stop no.315 on Orange Line no.3). The station actually connects to Safe Zone and if you go in via that entrance you will be exactly in the right place – Basement Level 2. You just have to follow the corridor and it’s through the second set of doors to your right.
If you go in via the street level entrance then you will need to go down the main escalators. When you get down to BF2 immediately make a hard left turn into the food court area. Walk through to the back and it’s tucked away in the furthest corner on your left hand side.
They have a few different options available including what they call a diet burger which just comes without the bun.
I went basic and ordered the original cheeseburger. You can buy it on its own or in a set with a soda and fries for 8,000 won. I got the set. It took about 7 to 10 minutes to come out. I was one of only a couple of customers so if it’s busy it may take longer.
It comes out on a little yellow tray with a little pot of ketchup. You order at the counter and then they call it out so you have to get up and go to the counter yourself like with most fast food places.
The burger was okay, not the best I’ve had but not the worst either. The meat patty was quite good. My main complaints were that the bun was a bit soggy, I prefer them toasted, and the sauce was a bit on the sweet side for my tastes but it wasn’t too bad.
The fries were basic but nice. They didn’t have a lot of taste to them so the fact that it comes with a little ketchup on the side is a good thing. I wish they had mayo as I prefer it on my fries. But of course you can’t have everything.
The best thing is that it’s all cooked fresh while you wait so it comes out nice and hot. I do think the quality of the meat was a lot better and fresher than McDonalds or Burger King.
Overall for the price I thought this wasn’t too bad and just seemed a bit less processed than the other chains that I mentioned above. If you are in Hwajeong and looking for a quick snack then it is worth a try.
